I Want to Be a Professional Listener






I had the opportunity of read a text which talked about the importance of listening ability in the process of learning a foreign language; it said that teachers must make understand students how this can help to develop skills. I learned that for teachers an activity of listening has to be done before thinking well about what is the topic, working with the students in something called pre-listening in which students have the previous information of the activity, it is because without this information the activity could get lost. I found out myself that this is true; in English class our teacher did a listening activity in which we did not have the previous information, after that the results were not good, this happened because nobody knew the topic and it was hard to find the context. Then our teacher did another listening activity in which we had previous information, and the results were excellent, everyone was able to understand well the topic and we could do it well being easy for us. Then I understood that a listening class has to be done with three parts pre-listening, during listening and after listening. I think that in a listening class always has to stay the pre-listening, this make students understand the context and the possible vocabulary that they will have in an activity being more clear and better for them.
