Sarasvati is the Indian goddess of learning and knowledge. She is said to be the one who created the world. In the pictures of her she is seen as a very pretty white women who is standing on a water lily playing a lute. Not only is she worshiped for the goddess of learning and the arts , she is also worshiped for being the goddess of true thoughts and forgiveness. The reason that in all of her pictures she is seen standing over a water lily is because she used to be Sarasvati the goddess of a river that flowed west from the Himalayas. She later changed to the goddess of all the creative arts and poetry and music because she was married to Brahma who gave her the power to be whoever she wanted.
